Natural Treatment For Pink Eye
· By Dara Berger
Each school year, one of my children inevitably comes down with pink eye. Sometimes it's hard to know if it is an allergic response, irritation or pink eye. I always start with some homemade saline eye rinses, which are incredibly soothing and help flush out any irritants or bacteria.
Homemade Saline Eye Rinse: - 1 cup distilled or boiled (then cooled) water - 1/4 teaspoon non-iodized sea salt - Mix well and use a clean dropper or eye cup to rinse the eye 2-3 times per day
I also use a warm compress — a clean washcloth soaked in warm water — held gently over the closed eye for a few minutes to help with discomfort and discharge.
For bacterial pink eye, colloidal silver drops have worked well for our family. A drop or two in the affected eye a few times a day can help clear it up quickly.
As always, if symptoms are severe or don't improve within a couple of days, please consult your healthcare provider.
